Think of them like leaving footprints on a beach...

You have to be real careful these days on the internet, for scammers trying to bilk you out of your hard earned penny.
I've been well woven into the depths of the internet, and all of it's seedy corners, for over 15 years now and have never fallen for a single scam. That's not bragging, there's just a few basic tricks to being able to (generally) spot someone trying to scam you.
This is a repost of the tips, in reply to a previous thread, which can be found here.

So when it comes to protecting our computers we try and keep up to date with all of our anti-virus and Malware programs.
I recently had a run in with the Windows 7 Internet Security 2012 Malware
and now I have a red x in my status bar tray, clicking it shows the Action Center saying "The Windows Security Center Service can't be started". After Googling for hours all that I was able to find about this was to press Windows Key + R, type in "services.msc", look for "Security Center" in the list, and set it's Startup Type to "Automatic (Delayed)".

Last night during my usual blackhat grayhat travels I managed to get infected with the Win 7 Internet Security 2012 virus / trojan. Mine in particular came via the consrv.dll rootkit which tends to infest itself via bugs in popular software like Adobe producs and Flash. Nice. ![]()

This release represents our most significant update in 2 years and we want to thank everyone who helped test along the way.
What’s New in SuperAntiSpyware 5?
I have spent all evening trying to get it off. Any ideas?

Hey whats a good free virus program.. i have full Norton, but it seems to be
.. in the last week I've lost my wow account and my facebook. (got both back.. but I must have something that's not being picked up by Norton)

So, I've been checking out a FaceBook "anti-virus scanner" named BitDefender SafeGo for a couple of weeks now, on 2 different FaceBook profiles (our official GeekDrop profile, and my own personal profile), and so far it seems pretty interesting. While it hasn't caught any problems on either of my profiles yet, (not sure I've really had any issues for it to catch) it's been a bit too soon to tell how effective it is, but it seems to have potential.
