Yeah its not fair at all. Here is one thing you can do that works - I 've done this a few times (I manage our office cell phones which is 26 phones). Is anyone else on your plan with you - like mom or dad? If so see if they could upgrade their phone. If they can then get them to upgrade to the new phone then once they get it simply call the carrier and tell them that you need to do a phone swap. Tell them that you need to place your new iphone on your number and then if you swapped say moms then put her phone number to your old iphone or back to her phone. Now that will lock her in from upgrading but it gets you your new phone and chances are you can talk mom into it with a fairly new iphone that is only 6 months old. My blackberry is on a commercial account and that is how I upgraded mine. Just something to think about.
