Hi all!

Debbie invited me. I found her through mobsters. I've been playing that for just about a year now. I got much of that down to a science.

I'm an unemployed techy thanks to a stinky economy, and these very evil entities known as managers and recruiters. My main exerptise is enterprise development with .NET. I am versed in C#, VB .NET, SQL, ASPX, and all that other goody goody crap that nobody seems to care about. I say you do it right, or you don't waste my time and money.

I am what I consider a displaced Floridian. I never wanted to leave Orlando. I had an interview there and in Miami on my dime-and what did it get me? It got me freaking broke! It screwed up my contrarian investments that I could have made a nice little haul on. That's OK. I had one nice time in So Be that I won't forget and aspire to go back.

I'll write more about myself later on if anyone wants to ask. Amongst other geeky type things, I've been published in 2 places for something non computer related and write for a third.

So I live in the boonies. I am outside of CHarlotte, NC. To be honest, the entire computer thing coupled with some family stuff has literally driven me nuts. The more I see with the industry, the more I despise it. I send some very exotic code and samples to recruiters and PM's, I preach OOP and n-tier architecture, and the classic warning of the cheap way, and the right way with a few numbers. That doesn't bode over well, and around here it's more about keeping up with what appears to be vs. what is.

My last job, I was a consultant technical lead to an NYSE place in a little rinky dink town in SC. When I told the 2 directors and unknowingly the client that the rewrite for this security apparatus wasn't anywherre near being HIPPA compliant, and I cited tons of the federal law to back that with, a lack of generally accepted security practices, an absence of need to know, passwords, etc., I got accused of sexual harassment a week later.

What basically happened is I was doing as I was told. I tried to prevent a lawsuit from coming about, and in the process I guess they figured I just illustrated to the client how the first project was a complete sham that nobody bothered to check into these things, and here comes round #2 claiming HIPPA compliancy when in fact the rewrite was going to be worse and even less secure than what they had. Can you see material breech of contract, incompotence, and negligent representation at the very least?

Well, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't say anything about it. That's all it is around my way, and to be honest, it's driven me up the wall. I got an idea to get into another line of work. However, the first time I mention this one particular publication....I get some seriously dirty looks.

I have a place lined up in Orlando. I just don't have the job to go with it. I'd love to be in Miami, but Assurant is the only place that seems to have been hiring and I didn't exactly get a warm and fuzzy feeling about the place in all honesty. I've had a lot of government stuff come across my way from being an honors student, but this hazzardous location stuff ain't working, and I refuse to relocate to DC-especially on my dime.

I've worked for a number of places. I was a consultant for the game XFS on Facebook as well as an advisor. The thing is, I never got any feedback when I'd try to get to the heart of the matter, and I don't think the developer(s) could understand or follow my .NET templates. I also have a framework/API that will dynamically populate an object instance via XML in efforts to bridge the gap between OOP and SOAP. So yeah, I've done some stuff and nobody seems to care. I can't even freaking give it away.

Outsourcing is still an issue, and I can tell you some stories about that. It's ruined my career, and the last place I worked for did that. Boy I can tell you about how some people do stuff. Like someone told me, skilled labor isn't cheap and cheap labor isn't skilled.

In the entire time I've been back from Florida, since 2003 I've only met a very few people. I might meet someone new once a year or so, that's it. I can't even find someone to have a cup of coffee with here-I tried it from Craigslist for over a year.

So I pretty much live on mobsters anymore as it's all I got. I got a few accounts. I need some airports and helipads. I thought about taking Orly's sheet and make a Windows app with it using my XML stuff to dynamically render things and get around that "The Godfather added a new goodie" without rewriting the entire thing. Just edit the XML file, voila. I did that for a utility apparatus, and re-architected their Windows tool to program their devices. Then I had another device that needed the same thing. Copy, paste, clone, 20 engineering hours it was done and all they had to do was update an XML file to match the firmware.

I guess people don't like it when you want to save them money and headaches anymore. (((shrugs))).

BTW...My name is Joe. I've been called worse. Feel free to drop me a line anytime.
