I guess I must live under a rock because I had never heard of this until last night. I head about it when they were talking about it on my news when some local kids died from drinking it. Needless to say I guess kids are stocking up on regular old poppy seeds you can get at your local grocer and they are making tea from it. In fact there are many sites on the net that explain how to do this (sorry I'm not linking anyone to them).

I just wanted to point this out for other parents like myself who have never heard of this. One more thing to keep a eye on - gotta keep the kiddo's safe!

A few years back a father lost his son because he use to drink Poppy Tea. He created a website that explains what it does to you and the dangers of it.

Poppy Seed Tea Can Kill You

This site is dedicated to the memory of our beloved late son, who died at the age of 17 from an overdose of poppy seed tea. Poppy seed tea contains different opiates in various concentrations. Typically morphine and codeine are the main ones. Morphine is recognized as one of the most addictive substances known to man and is, for this reason, also one of the most tightly controlled. Overdoses of morphine can be lethal. The main cause of death for morphine overdose is pulmonary edema, where the lungs fill with fluid passed from the blood stream through the alveoli in the lungs. That was the case with our son.

Keep the kids safe!!
