Re: Young Adult Recommendations

I was also an avid reader when I was younger (still am, but making the time is more difficult these days). These were books I enjoyed between the ages of 11 and 13 (I have also read the Twilight series twice!) and still do:

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi
Avi is an amazing author, but this one has always been my favourite. About a girl (Charlott Doyle) on voyage from Europe to the USA on a ship when a mutiny occurs. I read this book three times in a row!

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle
I don't even know how to explain this book. I loved it then and I still do.

The Anne of Green Gables Series by L. M. Montgomery
I don't know any girl who hasn't enjoyed these books! Smile The movies with Megan Follows (the first and second) are great.

The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell
Our teacher read this to our class. Beautiful.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
My favourite Agatha Christie novel. I couldn't put it down. Easy to read and I was trying to figure out the mystery the whole time!

Amy's Eyes by Richard Kennedy
Our teacher read this to my class, and we were all enthralled. A fantasy/fairytale of an orphaned girl and her quest.

A Spell for Chameleon by Piers Anthony
These books are all so good, full of puns and immediately attention-capturing. I was introduced to this book for Battle of the Books. It is good for people in middle school on up (no "adult" situations).

One of my favourites of all time:
The Princess Bride by William Goldsmith
I borrowed this book so many times from the school library, that the librarian gave it to me! The book is amazing. And I love the movie as well! If you can, try to get a copy of the book that does not have the chapter, "Buttercup's Baby" because that didn't appear until the 25th Anniversary. The original ending is perfect. To add anything to it ultimately takes away from the whole story.
