If your planning on upgrading to Office 2010 when it comes out around June 2010 and you are a XP user then you might want to think about it. According to Microsoft the new Office 2010 will not support XP 64bit. Now it will support XP 32bit. just not the 64bit. It gets even better if you are on windows server 2003 you might find some issues. Basically its Microsoft's way of telling you to upgrade. Because XP 32bit is so widely used still they are going to support that.
So if your thinking about upgrading then you might want to check out the differences between the different versions of office. You can click the version to see the product support page for them
Here is the break down for the OS support:
- Office 2003: Windows 2000 SP3+, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7
, and Windows Server 2008 R2.
- Office 2007: Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7
, and Windows Server 2008 R2. Office 2007 is a 32-bit application that will run on a 64-bit version of Windows, but there may be some feature limitations.
- Office 2010: Windows XP (32-bit only), Windows Server 2003 R2 with MSXML 6.0 installed, Windows Vista SP1+, Windows Server 2008 SP2+, Windows 7
, and Windows Server 2008 R2. Except for XP, 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows are supported. Terminal Server and Windows on Windows (WOW) (which allows installing 32-bit versions of Office 2010 on 64-bit operating systems) are also supported. Naturally, running a 64-bit version of Office 2010 is not possible on a 32-bit version of Windows.
Personally I think I'll hang out with Office 2007 for some time. Heck there are more times I have to save it as a 2003 so the person I'm sending it to can open it.
