I agree. It's nice when software developers take that little extra step to look for recognizable characteristics in files and use them accordingly, rather than solely determined by the file extension.
In case anyone is interested in using the same method of renaming a folder full of files to a different extension, as Pizzle mentioned, just use this:
Copy that and paste it in a new text file, changing the *.mod and *.mpg to whatever you want to rename from/to, respectively, and save the file name as "RenameMod2Mpg.BAT" (or instead of mod2mpg, use whichever you're renaming from/to instead, but be sure to save it as .bat). Then just drop it in the folder of files to be renamed and double click it.
