I honestly think they are almost the same in difficulty - knitting may be just a teeny bit harder to learn because of holding 2 needles instead of one - and I also think it is a little slower to finish what you are making, but it produces beautiful work!
Learning is getting easier now a days with youtube coming into the picture - there is a wealth of teaching videos out there on it and it is always easier to learn by seeing than by looking at a book! Check it out...

Wonderful that you were a receiver of someone knit for baby hats - hearing from someone that actually received a finished product makes it all worth it!

Love, Love, Love this new forum and hope to get many more involved in it so more good advice will turn up.
