Re: Death Leaves Online Lives In Limbo (News)

The only thing I would worry about is leaving something like that in the open is what if someone robbed you and took it? I know I have alot of my online login info on a word file and burned to a CD. I have a copy of that in my safe and my mother has a copy of that. In contains not only my online info but also important stuff like who my insurance is through along with policy numbers (for life, home....). I also have a copy of my living will and a copy of a power of attorney in there. I think things like this is important but again kept in a secure place.

As for notifying online friends I know what the daughter went though. This past January one of my dear friends past away. She was my age (40) and had just been released the night before from the hospital having undergone a hysterectomy. Her death was completely un expected. Her mom contacted me and asked if I could find her online friends and contact them to let them know the funeral arrangements. I was friends with her on her myspace so I did a message and messaged them all about her passing. I did the same for a few other websites that she belonged to. In a way it was kinda that type of busy work that kept me from completely loosing it. On the flip side I can't image being one of the good friends who had to receive the message that way that your friend you chatted with so often was now gone.

You know you do build online friends that do become near and dear to you. When they go poof you don't know what happens and it does leave you with that feeling of what if. It is nice when a few of your online friends have a way of contacting you outside of the web should you go poof to do a check up.
