So I'm curious if anyone out there uses "Angie's List". I guess in some areas its free but in my area its not. I'm just curious because A. I would like to know if its worth me coughing up the money for it and B. if its worth me putting my business in it.
I dunno I just found it kinda scammy when the rep was telling us to have our office ppl sign up friends sign up and all rate our office as if we were customers. So it makes you think are they doing this so that we all cough up money to join or to boost their site up. Plus now you have to wonder how reliable the customer ratings are if everyone is doing this. I guess you could skip the good ones and only read the complaints
So any Angies users out there?
Really??? Its suppose to be for folks who are lookinf for a company and have no idea where to go. Its were companies are rated by customers. It just how much can you trust the ratings?
Anyone else?
I've heard of them but never used them, no need.
i have found that once, but once i saw a membership price i instantly turned away, but if anyone coupld post one of my pittsburgh coimputer ads in there id love em for life!
Dear Smartmom (and everyone else),
We at Angie’s List are really alarmed at your post – specifically the reference to a representative from our company telling you to violate our membership agreement.
Angie’s List would NEVER condone the kind of activity you describe, so we’d like to get to the bottom of this quickly. Companies CANNOT rate themselves on the list – and having their staff, or direct friends and relatives of the staff, report on them would be considered self-reporting.
We consider self-reporting to be a cardinal sin, and we don’t hesitate to take action against violators when we find them. Would you mind contacting me at {SD: Email removed and forwarded to Smartmom}
For the record, we firmly believe our business model offers great value to consumers. Without being too commercial, I’d just say that we put a tremendous amount of time and resources into ensuring our data is as fair and reliable as possible. Our members save much more than the cost of membership in dollars, time and trouble, and I can back that up if anyone wants to know the full story.
In the meantime, I’d greatly appreciate it if you could help me investigate this issue.
Thanks.
Cheryl Reed
Angie's List
Hi Cheryl,
I actually do appreciate your post as it does give me a little more faith. For personal security reasons I'm not going to disclose who I work for but I will tell you it was at a national dealers meeting where there were close to 75-100 other dealers in my field of work.
I can tell you the meeting was last year and held in Ohio and it was your district rep for the area there. He did not tell us to rate our own company but to have our friends and co-workers sign up personally and rate us.
I do have your email (as it was removed above but as a moderator on the site I have it) and I will think about emailing you.
Thanks. That will give me something to work with. I'm not at all trying to put you in a bad position, but we just can't have this kind of thing going on. Take care!
