This is not to stop spammers. How would it? Spammers have cell phones too.

Last night I opened my Hotmail account, which I've had 20 years, to find the same thing. No I absolutely will not supply my phone number. So I deleted everything and deactivated my account. Then I went to my Gmail email which I never use and, yes same thing. Unacceptable. So I will only be using my server email service.
