Kudos to Glamour magazine for showing a real woman. Now days anything over the size of 8 is considered plus size (if your a model) yet the average woman is between size 12-14. How many times do you flip though a magazine and see a beautiful woman who is not so anorexic bone thin? Lets be honest how many magazines "fix" a photo to look as they think better - case in point Kelly Clarkson who was airbrushed to look thinner. What are we telling our younger generations? If your not stick thin your not good enough?
Bravo to Glamour who posted one of the top plus size models - Lizzy Miller, age 20, she wears between 12-14 (so tech. she is average) and her photo is untouched:
So is Glamour taking a risk of offending readers with the picture? Well so far they have been flooded with positive responses on Glamors blog, here are a few:
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Finally, a normal-sized woman! She is gorgeous and I would HARDLY call her PLUS-SIZED! The fashion world needs to re-evaluate what is "normal" and stop portraying anorexic as normal. You need to put more women like Lizzi in your magazine as do others. Maybe we wouldn't have so many young girls out there with eating disorders! Or even WOMEN such as my 53-year-old sister who thinks she needs to be a size 3. If you are naturally a small person, great! However, those that FORCE themselves to be small are unhealthy and I believe much of it is caused by these tall thin size 0 models out there portraying that they are what's beautiful. I, myself used to be a size 3-5 when I was younger and around 100-105 lbs (and only 5'2"). Due to medical problems, I've gained quite a bit of weight and am now a size 12. While I know that is "average", because I was always small, I feel I'm "fat". Most people can't believe I wear the size I wear. Anyway, thank you for showing me and many others that we are not "fat". Please do it more often!

I absolutely applaud your decision to run this photo of a real woman. I only wish you would have chosen to run it on the cover. I think it's about time a magazine realized that more women are not all "skinny-minnys" and that plus women deserve recognition too. Although I'm not a size 14 yet (2 sizes to go), I would rather be voluptuous and sexy and with extra weight than showing my bones and walking around like I looked dead. Congrats to the model who sat for this shoot - she has become a hero to alot of women because of her decision. And you can count on me becoming a new reader.

So what do you think? Are you on the side of Bravo Glamour or do you quick turn the page?
I think this is awesome!
But i'm curious, what do the GUYS on this site think? C'mon! and be honest!
~karma: i'm countin on it~

I agree - come-on tell us and no just being politically correct - what do you think?
also the thoughts of dad's with daughters - what do you think about the message being sent out to your girl(s)?
Simply put, I would very happily date her. She's not plus sized at all.
That being said, any man who says looks don't matter at all are full of sh!t. To some extent, deep down, both men and women judge on looks when picking a life partner. It's all about who you are going to wake up to everyday for the rest of your life... So, while looks do matter, I think she's perfectly beautiful. I'd rather a little extra skin then being able to see ribs... Nothing bothers me more.
Finally, there is just as much pressure on men to look a certain way... we can't all look like DoGG dammit!

I agree 100% and (sorry dogg) I do prefer men that are more huggable with a little more to hang on to.
My monitor just cracked.
And it's an LCD.
Actually it's fine with me, as long as the model isn't "sloppy fat" to the point of it being disturbing. I really don't need to be sipping my morning protein shake while opening the newpaper to this:
ewww
Somehow i dont think that will ever happen.. EVER.. but just for giggles, if you HAD to, which one of those voluptious women would you choose from?
if you HAD to, which one of those voluptious women would you choose from?
OMG I just gagged on my drink laughing at that one
Come on dogg more to love but then again you like to work out so here is a few to pick from....
OK chubby chicks or body builders - come on pick one...........
ewww

ok ok ok, if I absolutaly HADDDD to choose ... I'd choose jumping off of the George Washington bridge ... The high part.
But after the pic I just got on my commetn wall, this model in the original post is now looking like Megan Fox to me.
(And I'd probably choose a chubby over a bodybuilder btw. Otherwise I might as well start knockin boots with dudes. )
well i think the model in the OP is beautiful regardless , most women have that little belly going on, shes NOT fat, i dont even consider her big, i think shes gorgeus. So is she megan fox? in her own way i suppose...if i was a dude it would be a difficult choice to choose between the enormous chick or the bodybuilder, at least you made a decision and your reasoning is quite understandable...
those bodybuilders are plain out SCARY... and for reasons that i do understand
one of those would most likely beat, eat and throw you up again
(however, if it ever comes down to that and jumping off the GWB, i'll make sure i'm there to save you and make you go thru with the choice
)
