You can also use external hard drives.

Yep that is what I use now. I have a 500GB laptop external that requires no power but runs only on USB (less cords). If you use a external just make sure its formatted to FAT32.
See this thread if you need to reformat it (or to find out what format it is in): How to reformat a External Hard Drive or Flash Drive
Just a FYI if your playing a movie on the Flash Drive that is a larger file it takes a while to load. I have one movie that is 2.5GB and it took almost 5 min to load. While it is loading DO NOT keep hitting the "OK" button on the remote or you will only end up getting a "no disk" error message on the screen. Hit the "OK' once then leave it alone.
This was my mom's problem today. I gave her a large movie and she thought it would pop up right away like the movies that are 700mb and it didn't happen. Happy to report she is now watching her movie.
For anyone (like me) that wants all folders/files sorted on the USB drive / Flash Drive sorted alphabetically, here's a great, free little program that will sort them that way. You just open the USB drive in it, click sort and then save. All done.
For anyone wondering why you would need it to do this, without getting all technical about the FAT32 file system, when you add new things to the drive, it displays them in the order in which they were added, on the DVD player, rather than alphabetically. Sometimes that can kinda make finding things on it more time consuming that is necessary.
Note, be sure to run the program from another drive. If you store the program on the same drive and then try to sort it, you'll just get a "drive is locked so don't have exclusive access" type of error message when trying to sort.
Oh very nice since I no longer use Flash Drives - I changed over to a laptop external so I store it all on there now
On sick days this DVD is even better!!!!! Today its getting its use!
I know this post is rather old but, I'd have my PS3 any day. Best CD/DVD/Blu Ray/USB player/Gaming console, the only disadvantage being only able to watch region 0 videos for Blu Ray. I'd say the best videos I've ever watched are on my PS3, its excellent for streaming media via a media server, had no problems watching videos and listen to songs. Sony wins in this category as a multipurpose entertainment device .
I've heard alot of good about the PS3 as a dvd player too. Have you looked into any mods to see if it can make it region free yet?
The real difference between the two is price. If you're looking for a great, cheap, dvd player that plays usb, this one is great. i still love that thing.
