Besides being illegal............
if you are caught by microsoft (generally when it does updates) and it sees its a invalid key code entered it will then tell you its invalid. You will then have I believe its either 30 or 90 days to enter a new key before your windows is locked out. If you lock your windows out then you risk losing ALL of your data.

Is it worth it... In my opinion NO WAY!

If you pirate you can not update your windows. You know when they come out with the Critical updates because you run the risk of it calling home and then locking you. Not running updates and installing critical ones puts your computer at risk and more open to bugs/Trojans/worms/MalwareMalwarebytes Anti-virus / Anti-malware.

Its really just not worth it in my opinion.

My Win7 is store-bought, but word is you can still update as usual with Windows 7, minus one update in particular which will cause problems (KB971033). There's a GeekDrop article on that here: Clicky

Of course that is so far, and there's never any guarantee that down the road a pirated version of Windows 7 will become locked out or disabled in another way. Usually a crack will come out no matter what happens, but for most people it's more hassle than it's worth.
