If you use uTorrent then before you upgrade to the new version 2.0 you might want to check with your torrent sites to see if its allowed. Quite a few private torrent sites are banning the new version. If your on the old version you are still good. Out of the two main private torrent sites I use one has banned it stating the "unfairness" of it.
I use uTorrent but I'm on version 1.8.4 the one previous to the 2.0 The main torrents site that I use has a huge banner that says do not upgrade as it is a banned torrent and you will not be allowed to use it. So what is the big deal with uTorrent 2.0 and why is it banned? The new version has what they call UTP where it basically throttles itself. It also has been noted that it "favors" its own kind vs other bit-torrent clients. When it connects to other clients it gives preference and that is deeming it as un-fair by torrent sites. So basically before you click that upgrade button do some checking first so that way your not left trying to downgrade. You can also read more about it here: CLICKY
Here is what they are saying on my one private torrent about it:
utorrent 2.0 has a new thingy (id call it a bug) called utp. utp is a sort of "management" protocol for bt. It also includes an automatic speed limiter based upon latency.
Now heres the bad thing. if your using this new utp. linux seedboxes will have trouble connecting to you. (big problem). the even bigger problem is, you guessed it. utorrent utp doesnt play nicely with any other clients. So effectivly this will create *2* swarms. a swarm of utp utorrent 2.0 clients and well the *others* orphans...
What we are saying is that because it is not on the allowed list, because it is banned you cannot use it here at XXXX in fact there are very few if any places that are secure that will let you lose it.
It is a long way from being fully tested and the reports being received back so far across the torrent scene do not look at all promising in regards it being approved anywhere in the near future. To use XXXX you will need to use another client or an earlier version as what you are using is going to show you as not seeding and will course you problems both with hit and runs's and future down and uploads.
It is not that it is just not an approved client.. it is a banned client.
Out of my mind
Thanks a lot SM. I tend not to upgrade to newer versions of things till I hear some user reviews, good lookin'
