I did a thread about How to Backup Firefox a long time ago here ! Clicky
Once I get SnagIt installed I will have to do a revison on some of my posts !
Also doing it is a simple process !
1 Use program in the thread I posted to save a backup file of Firefox
2 Unistall firefox
3 Reinstall Firefox (version doesn't matter)
4 Run program again ask to restore Firefox from file (Note at this point you have two options)
a. Run it under default user which 99% of people do
b. Create a second Firefox profile (this was great for a home PC thats shared with other users)
When you start Firefox with two profile it will have a screen asking which user (Default or USERNAME)
Just like having a dual boot os !
This will save all your add ons and everything also you can make a portable version for your flashdrive so you can run Firefox on it with all your addons on a friends PC without having to install add ons on there computer !
I went back and reinstalled all my plugins and Firefox, back to 3.6. It is now working okay, except I still can't see pages on CNN... They just come up as white pages. It's progress at least... The program isn't crashing for everything.

Sounds like your goddammit was corrupt then. That's what I was talking about earlier. Sometimes during upgrades the config files corrupt and totally screw Firefox up. Reinstalling them updated your goddammit.

I hate it when that happens! OK get this I just installed Firefox on the son's gf's laptop and its saying "Thanks for choosing Firefox! We're sorry to report this, but your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements to run this version of Firefox." SO I checked and yes she does. She has 3GB of RAM and 160GB HD. I installed it anyways so I'll have to see if its wonky.
Yea, I hate to say it, because I've been a huge Firefox nut-hugger for years now, and it's still way better than IE of course, but it's starting to turn to . And the development team has their own agenda, which doesn't often involve listening to it's users bug reports. Problems and bugs reported can go on for years with no fix. There's one issue I've had on both computers through umpteen versions now, where the pages will stop loading, and videos will stop playing until you move the mouse. Often times I have to sit here and babysit it, moving the mouse alot just to make sure the pages load. There's like a 3 page bug report with an astonishing amount of people saying they have the same issue on the Firefox forums, no one can figure it out, and they still never fix the issue. I also get alot of hard drive thrashing on the laptop, while the desktop pc does alot of weird pausing every few seconds and "not responding"'s.
Really hoping Chrome does all that my Firefox does (including all of my extensions) soon, without all of the problems. I'll abandon FF in a heartbeat at this point.

Oh I agree but I will say my number one pet peeve with Firefox it the fact that its a MEMORY SUCKING PIG!
This is like after a hour of opening it. Give it a few hours and woooo - bad. I shut mine down a few times a day to correct it. Firefox really needs to correct this issue. However I will take this over IE any day of the week. Like you I'm waiting for Chrome to catch up with the extensions.
another option for you is install flock (its just like Firefox) but it has a different look
When you download flock it has extra toolbar by default that you can get rid of also 99% of Firefox add-ons work with it !
I have only had one not work with it and it was one labeled (experimental )
Check out Flock here Clicky
EDIT: I forgot to add it uses less memory ! That is the main reason to suggest it !
I oped task manager and did a screenshot Browsers use the most memory but Firefox is on the top Flock uses half the memory and it more stable ! Still if you close flock with tabs open it asks you if you want to save just like Firefox

James I feel your pain I had nothing but issues. Like you I downgraded then back to upgrade and they just followed me. SO I backed up (Here is how: How to Backup and Restore Firefox Passwords and Bookmarks) then I un-installed Firefox and then reinstalled it. That cured it and now its working wonderful - I'm in 3.6 now.
