Register on the Do Not Call Registry - you can do that here:

National Do Not Call Registry

The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free.

You should have "Call Screening" on your phone. If you add the telemarketer's phone number to it, you won't hear you rphone ring at all when they call. You're allowed a maximum of 12 phone numbers added to your call screening list, if you go over, I believe it pushes the oldest off the list and replaces it with your latest new one.

To use it:

  • Pick up your phone and press *60
  • Then just follow the recorded menu as to what you want to do. There's also an option to automatically add the last caller to the list, so if the telemarketer was the last caller, you can save a little time and do that, instead of manually typing it in, by pressing #01#. It'll repeat the number for you to confirm.
  • Hang up, or add more.

If you want to cancel Call Screening

  • Pick up your phone and press *80
  • Press 3
  • Hang up

This has saved me a ton of annoyance over the years with persistant creditors who have the wrong number. I have a very simple phone number and people call it all the time by mistake, but creditors are another breed of a$$hole ... even if I answer them, and tell them they have the wrong person/number, and to stop calling, they don't ever get it through their thick skull, and continue right up the following day. even when they've said they're going to remove me from their list, after some arguing (they never want to believe ya, and often get cranky with you). So they go right on my Call Screening. My only complaint is that we can't add more than 12 numbers to the list, since most of these people will just use another number to harrass you from. They usually have a handful of numbers they use.

Another option if you don't have Call Screening, and have an old fashioned modem still in your computer, that you have your phone line hooked up to, you can use a free program called PhoneTray Free. It's basically a callerID program with a phone zapper built into it. So you can add the number to your zap list, and if they call, it'll automatically hang up on them for you, the only issue really is that it takes at least one ring for it to recognize the number before hanging up i ntheir face, whereas Call Screening ... you just never even know they tried calling.

Re: How can I BLOCK telemarketers from calling me?

I have/had the same problem with Comcast. They call at the strangest times, and according to them they have the right to call people on the do not call registry if they have services with them (we have comcast for internet). I finally was able to talk to someone and they said they would take me off their list but it would take several weeks. That was two weeks ago and I haven't had any calls since.*crosses fingers* I guess you will just have to try to answer the phone when they call and talk to someone...Comcast is the worst!
